Peaks to Plains trail mapClear Creek and Jefferson Counties have begun work on a $10.2 million, six-mile segment of the Peaks to Plains trail, a paved, multipurpose trail that will eventually connect Loveland Pass to a connection with the South Platte River Trail in Adams County.

This trail segment will follow Clear Creek along US Highway 6, and will connect the Mayhem Gulch Trailhead in Jefferson County to Tunnel 5 in Clear Creek County. It will include three bridges that span Clear Creek, five improved water access points, 30 to 45 additional parking spaces in Jefferson County and five parking spaces at a trailhead at the Oxbow Parcel in Clear Creek County.

Bicycle Colorado supported the counties on a $4.6 million grant proposal to the Great Outdoors Colorado River Corridors Initiative. Jeffco contributed $4.5 million in matching funds, and Clear Creek contributed $1.1 million.

Construction is underway and is projected to be finished in June 2015. Dan Grunig, Bicycle Colorado executive director, also appears in a video that explains and promotes the project.

We’re excited to watch this segment of the trail be completed. For more information, visit P2PTrail.com.
