Tour of the Moon is Space Exploration by Bike
Space Exploration by Bike
The Tour of the Moon on September 14, 2024, showcases the Colorado National Monument and exemplifies the best of road cycling in the American West. Tour of the Moon was made famous in the 1980’s Coors Classic and later in the cycling movie American Flyers. Epic views, a top-notch experience from start to finish, and an event that gives back are three reasons to register for this ride.
Unforgettable Ride
2,200 cyclists will take in the towering monoliths, sheer-walled red rock canyons, and panoramic views of the Colorado National Monument from the saddle of their bike. Both route options start and end in downtown Grand Junction. After the ride through the Monument, riders will either choose to head back to downtown on the 41-mile route through beautiful country roads and the Redlands, or complete a metric century on the 64-mile route through farm country and the surrounding areas of Fruita.
It’s important to note that the Colorado National Monument includes 3 tunnels through solid rock that do not have lights. Bike lights are required for this ride.
Top-notch from Start to Finish
Beyond the views, the ride boasts stocked aid stations with plenty of hydration options and sweet and salty snacks. There will be one water stop and four aid stations. SAG support will be on the course to provide roadside assistance. You’ll want to keep the fun going after you finish with the post-ride celebration with lunch, beer garden, expo, and live music by The Tyler Rust Band.
Staff Recommendation
Bicycle Colorado staff describe this ride as simply “One of the most iconic and beautiful bike rides in Colorado.” In three words, it’s “challenging, dramatic, and fantastic!”
One of the most iconic and beautiful bike rides in Colorado. Challenging. Dramatic. Fantastic.
Giving Back
Charity and community are a core part of The Ride Collective events. Since 2012, they have raised nearly $1 million for local and national charities. They have also helped raise awareness for these causes and supported local groups in the host communities. Bicycle Colorado is grateful for the support from The Ride Collective for our work across the state of Colorado. A portion of the Tour of the Moon proceeds go to support One Riverfront and Bicycle Colorado.
