DESCRIPTION:Want to try some competitive bike races this summer? \nWant to WIN some races this summer?! \nJoin EPRD for our Youth Gritty Grind MTB Race Series! \n**************************************************************** \nRaces are for all youth 2 – 14 years old – from Strider bikes and up! \nRaces will take place Tuesdays (7/21\, 8/18\, 9/15) at 5:00pm on the MTB Skills course behind the Wulf Rec Center. \nRaces will be in a cyclocross format – timed\, plus one lap. \nRacers will earn points based on finishing position. \nPoints will accrue across the series and after 3rd and final race\, rider with the most points wins. \n1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd place winners for each category – spirit awards too\, wear your best outfit!! \nCategories – \n– Boys and Girls\n– Ages 2-5 (Striders only)\n– Ages 6-8\, 9-11\, 12-14 (Pedal bikes\, no restriction on size) \nRace Parameters – \n– 2-5 – one lap\n– 6-8 – 15 mins\, plus one lap\n– 9-11 – 25 mins\, plus one lap\n– 12-14 – 35 mins\, plus one lap \nCourses may include tarmac\, gravel\, hardpack\, loose soil and wooden features. \n**** Riders must wear helmets at all times while riding. **** \n**** Gloves\, eye protection and other protective equipment is highly recommended. **** \n**** Bikes should be mechanically sound with working brakes. **** \n**************************************************************** \n**** See link below for registration! \n**** You may register for each race individually\, or for the series at a discounted rate **** \n**** Registration fees increase $5 for day of registrations. For 2026\, we’re excited to introduce a new format – two separate one-day off-road adventures! \nNext year’s event will take place the second weekend in June (June 13–14\, 2026) and will feature two unforgettable days of riding\, both starting and finishing at the beautiful Penrose House in Colorado Springs. \nOn Saturday\, riders will take on the Queen of the Canyons Gravel event\, featuring the same epic route that travels dirt roads to Cañon City and back\, conquering Gold Camp Road\, Shelf Road\, and Phantom Canyon. A shorter course option will also be available\, and timed segments will ensure racing takes place only where it’s safe to do so. \nOn Sunday\, it’s all about the mountains with the APEX Mountain Bike Marathon\, an endurance challenge climbing through the rugged backcountry of the Pikes Peak region. A shorter version will be offered for those seeking a more approachable ride.

SUMMARY:Pikes Peak APEX - Mountain Bike Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The Pikes Peak APEX continues to evolve! For 2026\, we’re excited to introduce a new format – two separate one-day off-road adventures!\nThis year’s event will take place the second weekend in June (June 13–14\, 2026) and will feature two unforgettable days of riding\, both starting and finishing at the beautiful Penrose House in Colorado Springs. \nMarathon\nThis year’s APEX Mountain Bike Race is also the Colorado State Championships\, and we have the all-time classic Colorado Springs ride in store.\nStarting at the mouth of Cheyenne Canyon\, this ride will sort itself out on a climb up North Cheyenne Canyon Road before taking a hard left into the trails of Sweetwater Canyon. Built just a couple of years ago (with some seed money from the APEX)\, this section of singletrack climbs up to Gold Camp Road\, where riders will take a left through two old railroad tunnels on the way to Frosty Park\, just above 10\,000 feet.\nFrom there\, we will traverse north on Jones Park Trail\, only to drop 3700 feet in 12 miles on Captain Jack’s trail—one of the most famous trails in southern Colorado. You won’t forget this one! \nMini marathon\nThe shorter mountain bike course still gets to enjoy the amazing singletrack climb up into Sweetwater Canyon\, but then traverses over to Buckhorn climb before coming down the amazing descent of Lower Captain Jack’s.\nStill a tough ride\, but only about 15 miles of fun before getting back to the Penrose House.

Our effective gliding technique has most students riding within two hours! \nREGISTER HERE \nLocation and Time \nClass is held in a coned-off portion of Mike’s Bikes Highlands Ranch location parking lot at 2030 E County Line Rd. Class runs for two hours. \nAdditional Details \nThe lesson will be held rain or shine\, so please be sure to dress for the weather. We suggest wearing comfortable\, active clothing with layers and close-toed shoes. Please bring your own water and sunscreen. Restrooms available inside Mike’s Bikes. \nDon’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions between now and class time.
