SUMMARY:Breck Epic
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE RACE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEPIC XVII- AUGUST 10-15\, 2025 \nYeah. Um…about that. We ripped it off from the Canadians. Who ripped it off from zee Germans. Who live next to the Swiss. \nSo why Breck Epic? \nLet me explain. No\, there is too much. Let me sum up;  The Breck Epic. Back to the beginning. When mountain biking was about big rides with friends. About lending a hand when a rider went down. About a shared experience that somehow\, flying in the face of all logic\, disproportionately enriched all involved. \nThe Epic is composed of 6 BIG backcountry loops (3 loops for the 3-day Epic-curious events)\, each between 35 and 50 miles long. The event is unique in that it employs a cloverleaf format; each loop starts and finishes within a mile from downtown Breckenridge and utilizes the sprawling network of trails in both Summit and Park Counties. When mapping out the courses we asked ourselves; “What big rides would we want to tackle if we had most of the day to slaughter and 6 of our best friends?” The answer lies before you. The six stages that compose the Epic are a well-rounded rider’s dream. Long rhythmic climbs followed by endless descents that make your smile muscles hurt. \nIn a bizarre way\, we have the assorted governing bodies to thank. Mountain biking seemed like an afterthought for many\, many\, many years. We’ll grant that that’s changing and it’s important to acknowledge that that doesn’t happen with someone pushing it from the inside. But the unintended result of being treated like the proverbial redheaded step-child for a decade-and-a-half is 6-day race in Breckenridge\, CO that lives among a small but thriving handful of kick-ass bucket-list races. \nOf course\, we’ve added a few things along the way. The Women’s Cycling Summit in 2023. Breck Bike Week collab with the Town of Breck in 2024. The Breck Epic Women’s Tour (2024) and the MEGA EPIC (2024)\, an exercise in ultra endurance madness. \nThe core race tho? It’s rad. The courses are beyond fun. The vibe? Mid-90’s mayhem. If that sounds like your cup of tea\, come join us. We’ve got great people in a great town with courses that you’re gonna need to ride to believe. What else do you really need? \nWanna throw your hat into the ring for 2025? In the immortal words of Levon and Barry\, “Awwwwww YEAH.”

SUMMARY:Master the Journey
DESCRIPTION:Master the Journey is a youth mountain bike event focused on supporting the Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) community by \n1. Offering a family-friendly mountain bike event to complement existing T1D community support events that promote a healthy\, active lifestyle for the T1D community by encouraging participation in mountain biking and lowering barriers to entry. \n2. Raising funds for the Children’s Diabetes Foundation to help offset the disproportionately high healthcare costs incurred by families affected by T1D. \nThe event will feature U19\, U17\, and U15 race categories on an approximately 7-mile course. U19 and U17 participants will race 2 laps\, while U15 participants will race 1 lap. \nFollowing the races\, a portion of the course will be open for a fun ride for all attendees. \nWhy are we focused on T1D? \nPeople with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) cannot live without continuous insulin therapy\, delivered via multiple daily injections or an insulin pump. Out-of-pocket expenses for these patients and their families create disproportionate financial strain that is over 2 times the national average. According to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation\, \n“Over 40% of Barbara Davis Center patients are uninsured or underinsured. \n“On average\, the first year of care for a newly diagnosed type 1 is $20\,000. \n“Type 1 diabetes is the only disease where patients and caregivers are making life and death insulin dosing decisions\, and they are doing it every hour of every day. \n“Diabetes is expensive. New Onset patients spend about $1\,400 on education and appointment fees. Pump Therapy can create better control but can cost up to $1\,200 each month. Insulin for children can cost about $300 a month. Testing 6-8 times a day is normal\, and all those test strips add up to about $300 a month.” \nThe overall health and quality of life for people with T1D are significantly improved with routine physical activity. Action sports\, such as mountain biking\, promote healthy living while also imbuing a sense of thrill and excitement for the participants. Master the Journey is focused on raising awareness for the T1D community\, introducing both new and experienced riders to youth mountain bike racing\, and supporting T1D families in need.
