SUMMARY:Master the Journey
DESCRIPTION:Master the Journey is a youth mountain bike event focused on supporting the Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) community by \n1. Offering a family-friendly mountain bike event to complement existing T1D community support events that promote a healthy\, active lifestyle for the T1D community by encouraging participation in mountain biking and lowering barriers to entry. \n2. Raising funds for the Children’s Diabetes Foundation to help offset the disproportionately high healthcare costs incurred by families affected by T1D. \nThe event will feature U19\, U17\, and U15 race categories on an approximately 7-mile course. U19 and U17 participants will race 2 laps\, while U15 participants will race 1 lap. \nFollowing the races\, a portion of the course will be open for a fun ride for all attendees. \nWhy are we focused on T1D? \nPeople with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) cannot live without continuous insulin therapy\, delivered via multiple daily injections or an insulin pump. Out-of-pocket expenses for these patients and their families create disproportionate financial strain that is over 2 times the national average. According to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation\, \n“Over 40% of Barbara Davis Center patients are uninsured or underinsured. \n“On average\, the first year of care for a newly diagnosed type 1 is $20\,000. \n“Type 1 diabetes is the only disease where patients and caregivers are making life and death insulin dosing decisions\, and they are doing it every hour of every day. \n“Diabetes is expensive. New Onset patients spend about $1\,400 on education and appointment fees. Pump Therapy can create better control but can cost up to $1\,200 each month. Insulin for children can cost about $300 a month. Testing 6-8 times a day is normal\, and all those test strips add up to about $300 a month.” \nThe overall health and quality of life for people with T1D are significantly improved with routine physical activity. Action sports\, such as mountain biking\, promote healthy living while also imbuing a sense of thrill and excitement for the participants. Master the Journey is focused on raising awareness for the T1D community\, introducing both new and experienced riders to youth mountain bike racing\, and supporting T1D families in need.

SUMMARY:Evergreen Youth Gritty Grind Series
DESCRIPTION:Want to try some competitive bike races this summer? \nWant to WIN some races this summer?! \nJoin EPRD for our Youth Gritty Grind MTB Race Series! \n**************************************************************** \nRaces are for all youth 2 – 14 years old – from Strider bikes and up! \nRaces will take place Tuesdays (7/21\, 8/18\, 9/15) at 5:00pm on the MTB Skills course behind the Wulf Rec Center. \nRaces will be in a cyclocross format – timed\, plus one lap. \nRacers will earn points based on finishing position. \nPoints will accrue across the series and after 3rd and final race\, rider with the most points wins. \n1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd place winners for each category – spirit awards too\, wear your best outfit!! \nCategories – \n– Boys and Girls\n– Ages 2-5 (Striders only)\n– Ages 6-8\, 9-11\, 12-14 (Pedal bikes\, no restriction on size) \nRace Parameters – \n– 2-5 – one lap\n– 6-8 – 15 mins\, plus one lap\n– 9-11 – 25 mins\, plus one lap\n– 12-14 – 35 mins\, plus one lap \nCourses may include tarmac\, gravel\, hardpack\, loose soil and wooden features. \n**** Riders must wear helmets at all times while riding. **** \n**** Gloves\, eye protection and other protective equipment is highly recommended. **** \n**** Bikes should be mechanically sound with working brakes. **** \n**************************************************************** \n**** See link below for registration! \n**** You may register for each race individually\, or for the series at a discounted rate **** \n**** Registration fees increase $5 for day of registrations. DESCRIPTION:The Colorado League fall race series consists of 4 regional races and a state championship. Mountain biking is a recognized club by many high school administrations. We provide student-athletes with a unique opportunity not found in many traditional school sports. Both individual achievement and teamwork are recognized. \nTeams range from 5 to 100+ riders and foster an inclusive culture for participation. We provide high school student-athletes a festive\, family-friendly atmosphere that focuses on respectful competition.
