Safe Routes bill passes Senate committees, heads to floor

On April 29, the Colorado Senate Transportation Committee passed the Safe Routes to School Act, HB 14-1301, on a 4-0 (1 excused) vote.

It next passed the Senate Appropriations Committee 5-2. And it may be presented as early as tonight in the full Senate. There’s still time today to ask your state senators to support Safe Routes to School.

If you have not yet, please call or email your state senator today and ask for support of House Bill 1301 — Safe Routes to School

STEP 1: FIND YOUR STATE SENATOR

  • Enter your home address near the top of http://openstates.org/
  • Select your senator to see his/her phone and email

STEP 2: CALL AND EMAIL YOUR STATE SENATOR

  • Ask for support of House Bill 1301
  • Give your name and address so they know you live in their district
  • Tell them that Safe Routes to School is a worthwhile investment in keeping kids safe and improving their health
  • Learn more about the bill and program here
STEP 3: TELL YOUR FRIENDS!
Elected officials say that even five phone calls and emails in support of a bill are a lot! Asking for their support can put the bill on their radar (when it may not be) and show that their constituents want this program in their community.
